Distinctive Unit Insignia
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per chevron Gules and Or, in chief a demi-sun with seven rays Or and n base a drawn bow with fire arrow point and Gules. Attached below the shield a Red scroll inscribed "FOREVER VIGILANT" in Gold.
Red and yellow are the colors traditionally associated with the U.S. Army Artillery. Red is indicative of the unit's courage, vitality and zeal. The gold refers to leadership, achievement and excellence. The demi-sun with seven rays represents the seven Indian tribes of North Dakota. A bow and arrow device is an established emblem of the North Dakota Army National Guard. The bow and flaming arrow also symbolize the significant Indian heritage which the state bears. The fiery arrow aimed skyward is emblematic of the Air Defense mission. The bow is fully drawn to highlight the unit's military preparedness and awesome striking power as well as characterizing the unit's motto.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 17 November 1988.
